Process Safety Engineer

Our client, a major oil and gas producer, has an immediate opening for a Process Safety Engineer reporting to the Manager, Safety Health Environment and Risk. This is a full-time position based in Prince George, BC. The successful candidate will provide engineering expertise and leadership in process safety management and loss prevention. The key focus area will be to promote loss prevention principles and methodologies to engineering, operations and maintenance.

  • Develop, implement and maintain business unit or site-specific Process Safety systems and procedures ensuring these are aligned and applied consistently
  • Assessing technical process and engineering risks to aid in the reduction of incidents and reduce the probability of incidents
  • Liaise with corporate HS&E, engineering, operations and maintenance on process safety issues to mitigate risk
  • Lead the site Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Safety Case Program and other process safety audits
  • Facilitate and encouraging process engineering principles to promote loss prevention based on industry standards
  • Establish Safety performance metrics, reporting and developmental studies, including identification of areas for continuous improvement
  • Trouble shoot and frame process safety related problems, at times in groups, and frame improvement opportunities to reduce risk.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • 5+ years process engineering design, or Process Safety Management experience and operational support
  • Strong working knowledge of process safety management and loss prevention related industry standards
  • Strong knowledge on Process Hazards Analysis methods, including HAZOP and LOPA
  • Strong facilitation, mentoring and leadership skills
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in management of change
  • Strong Knowledge of Safety Case would be considered an asset
  • Diversified engineering experience
  • Proven proficiency of Process Engineering and Design
  • Proficient understanding and knowledge pertaining to process safety aspects and impacts pertaining to fire prevention, explosion prevention and mitigation of toxic releases
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered with APEGBC or APEGGA
