Safety & Compliance Coordinator (Turnaround)

Fort McMurray, AB

Our client, a major oil and gas company, is seeking experienced Safety & Compliance Coordinators to support an upcoming turnaround event. This role will promote a proactive, frontline-driven safety culture through communication, engagement, and continuous improvement while supporting operational leadership and turnaround execution teams.

This is a fly-in/fly-out position from Edmonton or Calgary. The turnaround schedule will consist of 6 days on, 1 day off, working 12-hour shifts.

This is a short-term turnaround opportunity beginning at the end of August and running approximately 4–5 weeks in duration. Candidates must have previous turnaround safety experience and be comfortable working in a fast-paced maintenance and construction environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Steward and promote the implementation and utilization of the client's Safety Management System
  • Promote and ensure consistency of hygiene, safety systems, and radiation program controls within the Oil Sands operation
  • Review incident reports, provide feedback, and conduct investigations as required
  • Attend area safety meetings, pre-job safety meetings, and conduct periodic inspections to promote a safe working environment
  • Conduct safety and compliance inspections of facilities, service providers, contractors, and operations personnel
  • Complete Worksite Safety Observations and provide coaching and guidance to field personnel
  • Support turnaround teams in maintaining safe work practices and compliance with site procedures and regulatory requirements

Skills & Qualifications

  • Typically 5+ years of safety experience
  • Previous turnaround safety coordination experience is required
  • Consideration will be given to candidates with post-secondary safety education and/or a professional safety designation
  • Strong knowledge of applicable government regulations and industry best practices
  • Previous experience within the Oil & Gas industry is required
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced turnaround environment

Additional Requirements

  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restrictions
  • Valid driver's license
  • Required industry safety tickets
  • Successful completion of pre-employment requirements, including criminal record checks and drug and alcohol testing, as this is a safety-sensitive position
