IT Field Technician
Our client, a major oil and gas company, is seeking an experienced Contract Field IT Technician to support field operations across Northern Alberta. The successful candidate will act as an extension of the Calgary-based IT team, providing onsite support, infrastructure assistance, and technology project support at remote locations. Compensation may include a monthly availability retainer, hourly support rates, mileage and approved travel expenses, plus additional rates for after-hours callouts and project work.
What You'll Do
• Provide onsite and remote IT support for field users and facilities.
• Troubleshoot Windows, Microsoft 365, networking, and connectivity issues.
• Install and support Starlink, wireless, cellular, camera, and network equipment.
• Assist with technology deployments, infrastructure upgrades, and field projects.
• Maintain accurate site documentation, diagrams, inventories, and asset records.
• Respond onsite within three hours for critical outages in the assigned territory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of IT support, systems administration, or field services experience.
- Oil and gas experience an asset.
- Strong Windows, Microsoft 365, networking, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and travel to remote field locations.
- Strong communication, documentation, and customer service skills.
- Independent contractor with tools necessary to complete field work in remote locations, including reliable vehicle.
Candidates should reside in Edmonton, St. Albert, Morinville, Westlock, Barrhead, Athabasca, Whitecourt, Slave Lake, or the surrounding region.
