Safety and Compliance Coordinator

Fort McMurray, AB

Our client, a major resource company, is seeking a Safety & Compliance Coordinator to promote a proactive, frontline-driven safety culture through communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This position offers the opportunity to leverage previous expertise in safety, operations, and/or maintenance while partnering with operational leadership to provide guidance and support across Oil Sands operations.

This is a fly-in/fly-out position from Edmonton or Calgary on an 8 days on, 6 days off rotation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Champion the implementation and ongoing utilization of the client's Safety Management System.
  • Promote and ensure consistency in industrial hygiene, safety systems, and radiation control programs across Oil Sands operations.
  • Review incident reports, provide recommendations, and conduct investigations as required.
  • Attend area safety meetings, pre-job safety meetings, and conduct regular field inspections to promote a safe working environment.
  • Conduct safety and compliance inspections of facilities, contractors, consultants, and operations personnel.
  • Complete Worksite Safety Observations and provide coaching to promote safe work practices.
  • Support operational leadership by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Typically 5+ years of health and safety experience with a Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety and/or a professional safety designation (NCSO, CRSP, CRST, etc.) is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable government legislation and industry best practices.
  • Previous Oil & Gas experience is preferred.
  • Previous mining or Oil Sands experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with operations, contractors, and leadership teams.
Additional Requirements
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada without restrictions.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Required industry safety certifications.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment requirements, including criminal record checks and drug and alcohol testing, as this is a safety-sensitive position.
