Contract Formation Specialist

Our client, a large oil and gas company, has an immediate opening for a Contract Formation Specialist based out of their downtown Calgary location. As a part of the Oilsands Major Projects team, this position will support the development, negotiation and execution of commercial agreements. This role plays a critical part in ensuring contracts are structured effectively, risks are identified and mitigated and agreements align with organizational and regulatory requirements. This is a contract office based position on a 5/2 schedule. 

Key Responsibilities

•    Lead the end-to-end tendering process, including solicitation development, bidder clarifications, evaluation, negotiations, exception management, and contract award and formation 
•    Partner with internal stakeholders (Supply Chain, Engineering, Legal, Finance, and Operations) to define scope, commercial structures, and contract terms 
•    Drive and support commercial negotiations, ensuring outcomes align with corporate policies, risk tolerance, and business objectives 
•    Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate contractual and commercial risks throughout the contracting lifecycle 
•    Ensure all contracts comply with internal governance frameworks, legal requirements, and applicable regulatory standards 
•    Maintain accurate, auditable, and well-organized contract documentation within contract management systems 
•    Develop, standardize, and continuously improve contract templates, playbooks, and best practices 
•    Provide expert guidance and mentorship to internal teams on contract formation strategy, processes, and compliance requirements

Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Legal Studies, or a related field
•    10+ years of experience in contract formation, procurement, or commercial contracting
•    Strong understanding of contract law principles and commercial terms
•    Experience in negotiation and stakeholder management
•    Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
•    Strong communication and writing skills

Preferred Qualifications

•    Experience in energy, oil & gas, or large-scale industrial environments
•    Professional certifications (e.g., SCMP, CPSM, or Legal/Contract Management certifications)
•    Familiarity with ERP or contract lifecycle management systems (e.g., Ivalua, SAP, Ariba, or similar)
