Lab Technician

Fort McMurray, Alberta
Our customer, a major oil and gas company, is currently looking for a Lab Technician for their busy facility for a 1 year contract. The successful candidate will hold a minimum of 5 years analytical and QA/QC  experience, preferably in a SAGD facility.  This position is based out of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The work schedule is 14 days on and 14 days off, working day and night shifts. This is a fly in and fly out position.

Responsibilities
  • Identifies and helps develop work process improvements and efficiencies for the maintenance processes.
  • Executes maintenance and repair of general equipment in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensures that the required level of productivity, quality, safety and environmental standards are achieved.
  • Ensures all the Areas work is completed in line with the Discipline Specialists Best practice guidelines.
  • Establishes and facilitates team work and knowledge transfer between the area and specialist groups.
  • Coach Technicians, and working with them to develop training plans.
  • Ensures maintenance activities are carried out to the highest safety and environmentally ethical standards.
  • Understands plant & instrument diagrams.

 
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Minimum Chemistry technology / Laboratory technology degree; diploma or equivalent
  • This is a safety sensitive position
  • 5-7 years of experience
  • Provides technical and/or administrative support
  • Demonstrates the ability to learn terminology, applications and standard procedures for performing the job function
  • Performs routine, basic office/field tasks using established procedures
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis without restrictions
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Diverse knowledge of laboratory service facilities in SAGD refinery or process plant sectors.
  • Experience in laboratory QA/QC program implementation
  • Experience in troubleshooting, modification and validation of process or waste water methods
