Lab Technician

Fort McMurray, Alberta
Our customer, a major oil and gas company, is currently looking for a Lab Technician for their busy facility for a 6 month contract. The successful candidate will hold a minimum of 5+ years analytical and QA/QC  experience, preferably in a SAGD facility.  This position is based out of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The work schedule is 14 days on and 14 days off, working day and night shifts. This is a fly in and fly out position.

Responsibilities
•             Perform various routine tests in an efficient manner, not limited to the following: pH, turbidity, conductivity, hardness, alkalinity, sulfites, chlorides, silica, iron, Toc, TIC, bitumen-in-water, density, viscosity, BS&W, and Particle Analysis
•             Communicate off-spec sample results clearly and efficiently
•             Utilize, calibrate, and maintain equipment including, but not limited to: TOC/TIC analyzer, IC, ICP-OES 7600, Hach Spectrometer, Moisture Analyzer, Anton Paar Densitometer/Viscometer, Karl Fischer titrator, centrifuges, Particle Analyzer, Zeta Analyzer
•             Troubleshoot and calibrate equipment and perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
•             Collect process samples in an operating plant, following all applicable safety precautions.
•             Provide necessary training and coaching to junior members of lab staff team; work in a team environment to accomplish goals
•             Provide necessary training to operations staff when needed
•             Ensure laboratory facility is kept clean and in a safe and functional condition
•             Ensure that all laboratory supplies and expendables are available and in stock
•             Interface with Operators, Process and Facility Engineers, and Site Management
•             Stay current with new technologies and test methods for continuous improvement of laboratory function
 
Basic/Required Qualifications
•             Minimum Chemistry technology / Laboratory technology degree; diploma or equivalent
•             This is a safety sensitive position
•             Experience in troubleshooting, modification and validation of methods
•             Proven ability to maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment
•             Self-starter; ability to work with limited direction
•             Strong written and verbal communications skills
•             Basic skills in Microsoft Productivity programs. 
•             Ability to work effectively in a team environment, utilizing strong organizational and time management skills
•             Legally authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis without restrictions
 
Preferred Qualifications
•             Diverse knowledge of laboratory service facilities in SAGD refinery or process plant sectors.
•             Experience in laboratory QA/QC program implementation
•             Experience in troubleshooting, modification and validation of process or waste water methods
